From Sloped & Worn to Structured & Stunning: A Total Backyard Transformation in Athens, GA

At The GreenKeepers of Athens, we recently wrapped up a full-scale backyard renovation that highlights what’s possible when function meets thoughtful design.

Work Performed:
We removed a failing timber retaining wall and replaced it with two engineered block retaining walls—one standing 45’x6’ and another 60’x3’—each built to correct grading issues and support the surrounding landscape. Behind the new walls, we installed French drains and 57 gravel for long-term drainage control, and we tied in three existing downspouts to prevent water buildup.

After excavation and regrading, we prepped the area and installed three pallets of Zeon Zoysia sod, delivering a vibrant and durable lawn. To create a clean transition between grass types, we finished with a decorative rock border that separates the new Zoysia from existing Bermuda turf.

This transformation not only adds curb appeal but also resolves critical drainage and structural issues in the yard. Whether it's erosion, outdated hardscaping, or failing turf, our team delivers long-term landscape solutions that work.
